Glenn McMenamin

I have been a serious car enthusiast for as long as I can remember and have always had a love of all things automotive or anything that generally goes fast!

From gaining my driving licence at the age of 17, I have always been happiest sat behind a steering wheel of a motor vehicle whether it be anything from a Go Kart to an HGV.

I entered the world of Porsche in 2000 when I bought a brand new Porsche Boxster S which was really my 1st proper performance car. Not many months after I did my first track day in it with the Porsche Club of Great Britain (PCGB) at the historic Goodwood racing circuit.

From that day on I knew I was hooked on track driving as I found this was the best and only way to realise the full potential of a Sports car in a proper safe environment.

I worked my way up the Porsche Marques and since 2007 have kept company with their top end track car known as the GT3RS in which I have spent many hours driving to, from and around Europe’s many driving circuits.

In 2009 I came to the point where I felt my track driving skills arrived at a level where they could not be taken any further. I then came to the decision that I needed to try my hand at competitive motor racing.

As you will see from my profile and my results to date I have had a good amount of success in the short term that I have been racing (since October 2008). This being topped of by a Pro Am2 Class Championship Win in the Carrera Cup 2009 Season and then this year I defended my Porsche Carrera Porsche Cup GB pro-am2 title which I won at Brands on 9th October 2010.

Porsche Press Release after Pro am2 Win October 2010

Glenn McMenamin retained the pro-am2 title in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB during the final race weekend of the season at Brands Hatch (9/10 October). The Milton Keynes-based racer had a superb season with Red Line Racing, winning pro-am2 in six of the 20 races and fending off a tremendous challenge from George Brewster, George Richardson and MarkHazell to take the category title.

McMenamin says that the 2010 season was tougher than the previous year, when he won pro-am2 in his first season of racing. “With so many new people coming into pro-am2, from the first couple of races I knew I had my work cut out and it wasn’t going to be as easy as the previous season,” he said. Across the 20 races, seven drivers took pro-am2 wins and just 11 points covered the top four in the final reckoning.

“We’ve all pushed each other all season and the lap times are really up there,” said McMenamin. “I’m really pleased with the way we’ve all come on. I’ve been through the highs and lows of motor sport and the weekends at Knockhill and Donington Park were a disaster for me. I just saw the championship going away before my eyes.”

McMenamin says that the final weekend was all about pressure as he battled with Brewster for the title. “It would have been nice to go to the last weekend with a buffer like I did last year. But not having that meant there was a lot of pressure at Brands and I’m just relieved it all worked out.”

Now, he is working towards 2011 and hopes to be able to step up to the pro-am1 category. “If I manage to get out in pro-am1 next year, it will be just a case of going for what I can get. There won’t be the expectation that there was coming into this year. I’m very much hoping to step up to pro-am1 next year. If I’m in exactly the same car I’ll be interested to see just where I am against the top guys.”
